Separating is one of the hardest things a person goes through, and the information you share with us at that moment is personal. We treat it with real care. Who we are

Our promise, in short

• You can use the free tool without an account. We only keep your email if you ask us to.
• We collect the minimum we need, store it in the European Union, and protect it carefully.
• We never sell your data, and we never share it with anyone without a clear reason or your consent.
• You are in control: you can see your data, take it with you, or delete it at any time.

The information we collect

• Your answers. When you use the questionnaire, we process the choices you make (such as your relationship status, your stage, whether you have children, and what is worrying you) so we can give you a plan and documents that fit your situation. Sensitive questions are optional, and you choose what to share.
• Your account, if you create one. Your email address, your language, and the plan you saved.
• Purchases. If you buy a paid tool, our payment provider (Stripe) handles your card details. We keep a record that you purchased, and the invoice, not your card number.
• With your consent: analytics. If you agree, we measure how the product is used, in a privacy-friendly way, so we can improve it.
• With your consent: referrals. If you agree, and you click a link to a partner we suggest (such as a lawyer or mediator), we record that the click happened so we can improve our suggestions. We share only the visit, not your answers.

Why we use your information, and our legal basis

Your choices and consent

We ask for consent separately for saving your email, for analytics, and for referral tracking, with nothing pre-ticked. You can change your mind at any time, in your account settings or the cookie settings, and it is as easy to withdraw as it was to give. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

Who we share it with

We use a small set of trusted providers to run the service, each under a data protection agreement, and each keeping data in the European Union where possible:

• Supabase, to store data securely and manage sign-in.
• Stripe, to process payments.
• Resend, to send you emails such as a magic sign-in link or a welcome message.
• PostHog, to measure usage, only if you have consented.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your answers with partners. If we ever have to disclose data to comply with the law, we will do so carefully and only as required.

Where your data is stored

Your personal data is stored in the European Union. If any processing ever takes place outside the European Economic Area, we put in place an approved safeguard (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect it.

How long we keep it

• If you use the free tool without an account, we delete that session after 30 days.
• If you have an account, we keep your data until you delete it or your account is inactive for a long time.
• We keep purchase and invoice records for as long as tax law requires (around 7 years).
• Documents you generate are produced fresh each time and are not stored long term.

How we protect it

We encrypt your data in transit and at rest, keep it in the European Union, limit who can access it, and design the product so that one person's data is never visible to another (including a partner you invite, who gets their own separate, private space).

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• see the data we hold about you, and get a copy;
• correct anything that is wrong;
• delete your data;
• receive your data in a portable format;
• object to, or ask us to limit, certain processing;
• withdraw a consent you gave.

The easiest way is from your account settings, where you can export or delete your data yourself. You can also email us at [privacy email to be confirmed]. We will respond within one month. If you are not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your data protection authority (for example the ICO in the UK or your national data protection authority in the EU).

Children

Separate Together is for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Sensitive information

Some of what you might share touches on personal and family life. We have designed the questionnaire to ask only what is needed, to keep sensitive questions optional, and to never require free text that could reveal more than you intend. You are always in control of what you share.

Information about other people

If you enter information about your partner or your children to organise your own situation, please share only what you need to. We keep it minimal and protected, and an invited partner's data is kept entirely separate from yours.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know. Please check back from time to time.
